2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Breaks Suzuka Track Record

2021 Honda Civic Type R | Fayetteville, NC

The all-new 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is showing just how performance-oriented it is. This special-edition sedan recently set a new front-wheel-drive track record on the iconic Suzuka Circuit in Japan, highlighting its solid power and handling skills.

To set the new record, the Civic Type R Limited Edition achieved a lap time of two minutes and 23.993 seconds. This time was faster than the Ferrari F40 and only six seconds slower than the Nissan GT-R and Koenigsegg One:1.

The Suzuka track was first built as a testing facility for Honda vehicles, so it’s safe to say that the brand knows it well. This track is the only one on the Formula1 calendar to have a figure-eight configuration, making it 3.6 miles of challenge for professional drivers.

Honda has yet to release the Type R Limited Edition model in America, but it will be coming soon, only offering 600 units to consumers in this market. This special-edition model is built with speed in mind, using lightweight, forged aluminum BBS wheels and a significant reduction in overall weight to help increase its power. It also features Michelin® Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and recalibrated steering to provide maximum control and feedback.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R will launch in the US later this year. It has already been introduced in other markets, selling out in less than four minutes in Canada and the United Kingdom.
