The all-new 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is showing just how performance-oriented it is. This special-edition sedan recently set a new front-wheel-drive track record on the iconic Suzuka Circuit in Japan, highlighting its solid power and handling skills.
To set the new record, the Civic Type R Limited Edition achieved a lap time of two minutes and 23.993 seconds. This time was faster than the Ferrari F40 and only six seconds slower than the Nissan GT-R and Koenigsegg One:1.
The Suzuka track was first built as a testing facility for Honda vehicles, so it’s safe to say that the brand knows it well. This track is the only one on the Formula1 calendar to have a figure-eight configuration, making it 3.6 miles of challenge for professional drivers.
Honda has yet to release the Type R Limited Edition model in America, but it will be coming soon, only offering 600 units to consumers in this market. This special-edition model is built with speed in mind, using lightweight, forged aluminum BBS wheels and a significant reduction in overall weight to help increase its power. It also features Michelin® Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and recalibrated steering to provide maximum control and feedback.
The 2021 Honda Civic Type R will launch in the US later this year. It has already been introduced in other markets, selling out in less than four minutes in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Around the world, people are sitting in wait to get their hands on the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition model – and its current sale-speed reflects that. Recently, Honda put this special-edition model on sale on its Canadian website, and each of the 100 available units sold out within four minutes.
This isn’t the first time this has happened, either. In the United Kingdom, a similar event occurred with each of the 20 units available in the country going to buyers at roughly the same pace, highlighted just how people want to get their hands on this vehicle.
The Type R Limited Edition is currently available for a $1,000 deposit in the United States. It comes with a Phoenix Yellow exterior and a weight reduction to help increase its speed, while also boasting 20-inch BB alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tires, a new teardrop gear knob, and an Alcantara steering wheel.
Only 1,000 Civic Type R Limited Edition models were created to be sold around the world, and 600 will go on sale in the United States later this year. While we’re not sure what the exact pricing this model will have in the United States, we do know that it was listed in the UK for £39,995 – the equivalent of $46,600 USD. Since the US model will be slightly different than the European option, including standard features like an air-conditioning system – it will likely have a similar or slightly higher price tag.
