Honda is lending a helping hand in this trying time. The brand recently announced its goal to help associates, customers, partners, and communities throughout the country with an initial donation of $1 million. This pledge will go towards food banks and meal programs across North America.
In addition to this promise, when a Honda associate donates to a local food program, the brand will match up to $1,000 for each individual gift.
“We are focusing our societal response on three vital and immediate human needs,” said Rick Schostek, Executive Vice President of Honda North America. “We are addressing food insecurity at a time when many families are struggling, investigating the potential to use our manufacturing know-how to produce medical equipment to help those battling COVID-19, and deploying our associate ‘virtual volunteers,’ to help people in need.”
Honda is also donating N-95 masks to healthcare providers and manufacturing protective face shields with repurposed 3D printers. The carmaker is even partnering with other companies to build critical medical equipment to help fight the disease.
And that’s not all. The brand has even set up a new temporary paid personal leave of absence program, which allows eligible associates to receive full pay for up to 10 non-production business days.

Sometimes, two heads are better than one. That’s why Honda has teamed up with General Motors (GM) to help take them into the future of electric vehicles. The Honda and GM partnership will result in the building of two new electric cars, allowing both brands to expand their electrified lineup.
The new EVs will use GM batteries that are manufactured at its plants in North America. Honda will design the interiors and exteriors of the vehicles.
“This expanded partnership will unlock economies of scale to accelerate our electrification roadmap and advance our industry-leading efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Rick Schostek, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor. “We are in discussions with one another regarding the possibility of further extending our partnership.”
Along with utilizing GM’s batteries, the vehicles will also use the brand’s hands-free advanced driver-assistance technology. It will also use the OnStar® safety and security telematics services, while still being badged as a Honda vehicle.
This isn’t the first time that Honda and GM have partnered up. They previously worked together on the Cruise Origin, an electrified vehicle that was self-driving and meant for sharing city rides. It launched earlier this year in San Francisco.
Honda expects the two electrified vehicles to go on sale in the United States and Canada in 2024.
