We’ve created a list of Earth Day activities to help you and your family think of ways to celebrate this important holiday. The auto industry has recognized the significance of environmental issues over the past few decades, something evidenced by green technologies and the rise of hybrid and electric models. Earth Day is all about giving back and protected our environment, something you and your family can do together.
Give kids an appreciation for nature by cooking with the sun. According to Sustainable Baby Steps, cooking with the sun is simple as long as you have a homemade solar oven. First, get an old box, aluminum foil, and (if possible) a piece of glass. Cut a hole in the top of the box, line the box with foil, and put the glass in the hole. You can cook safe foods in the box on a sunny day like eggs, nachos, tea, and baked veggies. You’d be surprised how hot this simple contraption can get, and it uses no electricity.
Another easy Earth Day activity is to create zero waste with bottle bricks. A bottle brick is made by compacting small bits of unrecyclable materials. While we have a solution for some materials, like aluminum and paper, not everything can be reused. These bricks can be made by spooning dry materials of unrecyclable material (scrapped and cut, first) into old plastic bottles. What is significant about this activity is not the bricks (which can be used as building materials when properly compressed), but the conversation you have about how much unrecyclable materials you and your family consume.
Earth Day is a great time for the whole family to come together. At Bryan Honda, we’re proud to say our green vehicles are also helping to do their part for the planet.
