Often ranking as one of the top attractions in the area, this historical museum has interesting information, stunning architecture, and impressive displays. Great for young kids as well as adults, this museum is a perfect way to spend a day.

According to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum website, the facility opened its doors in 2000, and it has free admission. There is a main exhibit area, temporary gallery, and a four-story theater, and you’ll also find a motion simulator ride, a fun experience for all. The building is an official part of the United States Army Museum System, and the exhibits largely date from modern warfare to WWII operations.

“Nearly 20 years from dream to reality, the museum has become a place to honor and preserve the legendary feats of the airborne and special operations troops who have contributed so much to defending our nation’s interests,” reads the official website.  “From the early days of the Parachute Test Platoon to the ongoing War on Terrorism, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum recounts the actions of heroic soldiers.”

The most notable exhibits include the Battle of Mogadishu exhibit, an event that is the focus of the film Black Hawk Down (2001). You can also see early airborne divisions dating back to 1940, as well as Korean and Vietnam War exhibits. The Airborne and Special Operations Museum is just one of many things to do in the area.
