Honda Tops Cars.com American Made Index

Honda American Made Index | Fayetteville, NC

American carmakers have lost out to Honda in the Cars.com American Made Index. In a recent study that examines which vehicles in the U.S. automotive industry are actually made in America, Honda has come out on top for the second year in a row.

The Japanese carmaker came out with six of the top 10 most American-made models sold in the United States. Last year, Honda was also awarded this honor with four models in the top ten.

The following vehicles were recognized in the Cars.com American Made Index:

  • 2019 Honda Odyssey (Lincoln, AL), 2nd place
  • 2019 Honda Ridgeline (Lincoln, AL), 3rd place
  • 2019 Honda Passport (Lincoln, AL), 4th place
  • 2019 Acura MDX (East Liberty, OH), 6th place
  • 2019 Honda Pilot (Lincoln, AL), 7th place
  • 2019 Acura RDX (East Liberty, OH), 10th place

To determine the top ten vehicles in their American Made Index, Cars.com considered several factors. This includes the location of each vehicle’s assembly plant, the origin of the engine and transmission, the domestic-parts content, and U.S. factory employment adjusted by sales. In the case of a tie, curb weight is used to break it.

Honda is proud to note that nearly two-thirds of Honda and 99% of Acura vehicles that are sold in the United States are also made there.*

Many people value buying domestic, whether it’s because they think it will do more to help the American economy or they believe American-built vehicles are better made.
